Isabella Chiara Vicco Barbosa

Hiya! I’m an Argentine designer and creative based in London. My creative practice throughout my time on GMD has been marked by a constant dialogue between analogue and digital methodologies, creating a distinct blend of the two. This range of mediums became a way to explore a wide array of ideas, including the relationship between space and people, the depth of the immigrant experience, and the subtle imprints our daily lives leave in their wake. As time has gone, my work has evolved from static and 2D to moving image and 3D formats, utilising space as a wholly present element in my pieces to create a more immersive experience.

Te Sentís en Casa?

Te Sentís en Casa? (translated to English as ‘Do you feel at home?’) is a mixed media animation exploring the relationship between our fading memory and the places we once called home. Photographs of my own flat in London, marked by items I’ve brought from all over the world as a constant immigrant, were printed and collaged before being scanned back into the digital world to create a 3D environment.

The animation aimed to explore an often neglected side of nostalgia: the entitlement and anger one feels when a space you leave behind can no longer be accessed and starts to slowly disappear from your memory.

Los de Afuera son de Palo

Los de Afuera son de Palo is a mixed media animation and installation inspired by the lyrics of the 2025 album ‘La vida era más corta’, by musician Milo J.

As the album calls for a return to the folkloric roots of more classical Argentine music genres, I created a collaged deck of 48 Spanish playing cards using visual motifs representative of my nation. As I created the card deck, I recognised that communal culinary experiences were at the heart of Argentine culture and aimed to use my animation to highlight a daily ritual: the merienda, a light shared meal in between lunch and dinner. The animation uses the card deck to introduce various visuals from Argentina before leading the viewer to a table set with a simple merienda and a classic card game named Truco.

I went on to expand the project beyond just the digital realm and developed a tablescape installation, in which a table is set with a curated and exaggerated recreation of a typical Argentine merienda. This way, viewers could experience a merienda first hand.

Bass Victim Music Visualisers

With an open brief, I decided to use the opportunity to create three ultra-wide format music visualisers as a set for the Transporter, a 270 degree projection space.

The idea was to create a new way to experience the songs, through the use of visuals, type, and the physical space itself of the Transporter. Viewers could choose to either stand outside the Transporter to view the full visualisers, or inside to experience a more intense, rave-like atmosphere.
